MCE Families,
This afternoon Governor Parson announced that all Missouri public schools will be closed for the remainder of the school year. This is heartbreaking for so many reasons, but we understand the decision.
We know this leaves you with a lot of questions. We will continue to provide enrichment learning opportunities and food deliveries until May 19. Please stay tuned for information about continued learning activities, rescheduling of activities/events, gathering personal belongings from the buildings, and more.

The following is a message from the MS/HS Office Regarding Learning Packets and Virtual Learning:
We know there are a lot of questions regarding learning and the COIVID-19 closure. During this closure, learning needs to be mainly focused on enrichment and reviewing content already learned according to the Missouri Learning Standards. Students are encouraged to sit 30-35 minutes a day for each class. For the Middle School core classes and those who are not utilizing online platforms, we do have the next set of learning packets ready for pick-up and bins ready for you to turn in any physical work completed. Pick-up & Drop-Off of any work will be done at your convenience. Here is how it will work...
Outside the front of the High School entrance are two filing cabinets. One is labeled Middle School the other High School. The MS cabinet drawers are labeled 6th Grade, 7th Grade and 8th Grade. All work for those grades are in separate folders ready to be picked up. On top of the MS cabinet is a rubbermaid container to turn in any completed work not done electronically. The HS cabinet is labeled Math, Social Studies, Science & Electives, and English. Inside these are labeled packets for each class such as Alg. 1, Geometry, Biology 1, etc. Find you class and get your work. There is also a rubbermaid tub on top of the HS cabinet for you to turn in any non-electronic work. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR NAME IS ON YOUR WORK TURNED IN AND TO PAPERCLIP ALL WORK TOGETHER. There are paperclips in one the of bins.
If the closure lasts through the school year, we will be utilizing the 3rd quarter grades as the semester grade. All work completed through the closure is for enrichment only. Grades will not be taken but feedback will be given to students who complete their work for mastery of learning. Grading for dual enrollment courses, however, will be subject to the grading policies set forth by the participating college or university. Please check with your dual enrollment instructor/teacher as to what that may look like.
The primary communication tool between teachers and parents will be school email and if being utilized, Google Classroom. Please feel free to contact your teachers at any time and they will return your email within 24 hours if sent on a weekday. #PantherStrong

MCE Elementary Information regarding Learning Packets 2.0
During this extended closure, learning needs to be focused on the retention of skills and reviewing content already introduced at school. Students are encouraged to participate in “school-like” activities for 30-90 minutes each school day depending on their age and attention span. We encourage you to break it up into manageable chunks.
At this point we request that you KEEP the first learning packets at home. We do NOT need those returned. Grades will NOT be taken on the work completed. Use this time to keep fresh with already learned skills and read, read, read. If the closure lasts through the school year, we will be utilizing the 3rd quarter grades as the semester grade. All work completed through the closures is for enrichment purposes.
New learning packets are now ready for our current closure order. Please read carefully the following methods used to get the packets to you.
MAILED~If your child has an IEP their individualized packet has been mailed. Many siblings' packets were included in that mailing for your convenience.
DELIVERY~If your child receives the Breakfast/Lunch Delivery each Tuesday their packet will be delivered to your door Tuesday, April 7th.
PICK UP~All other packets are available NOW in a filing cabinet at the front entrance of the elementary building. The cabinet is marked and includes hand sanitizer. Packets will NOT be handed out by staff during Life360 food distribution/library checkout time Tuesday evenings. Swing by the filing cabinet anytime. This will cut down on risk to you and our staff.
The primary communication tool between teachers and parents will be school email and a wide variety of other digital tools (Facebook, Remind, ClassTag, Messenger, Google Classroom, etc.). Please feel free to contact your teachers as questions arise. Stay safe and remember to wash your hands often.
#MCEalwayslearning….even during a pandemic

MCE Families,
The ongoing impact of COVID-19 in our region requires school districts to make decisions in the best interest of public health. After consultation with the Polk County Health Department and other area leaders, it was determined an extended school closure was necessary. The Marion C. Early R-V School District will be closed through Friday, April 24, 2020. This includes all extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.
We continue to understand that each family is impacted in unique ways by the extended school closure. We will continue to provide breakfast and lunch to our students in need. In an effort to limit staff exposure, we will move to a once a week delivery. All students who have signed up for breakfast and lunch will receive 4 days worth of food on Tuesdays. We will also continue our food partnership with Life 360 throughout the closure.
Teachers are working on additional enrichment activities. Details on the enrichment activities will be provided by the building principals when they become available.
Our priority during this difficult time is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Please know that we miss each of our students and are anxiously awaiting the day we can welcome them back.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these uncertain times.
Sincerely,
Dr. Josh Angel

CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM MARION C. EARLY SCHOOLS:
Dear MCE Families,
There is no higher priority than the safety of our students, staff, and community. As our local, national, and international communities continue to assess the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), the Marion C.Early School District receives ongoing guidance from the local and state health departments, the State Department of Education, and the CDC.
I am writing to inform you, based on the recent recommendation from the Polk County Health Department, the Marion C. Early R-V School District will be closed beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020 through Friday, April 3, 2020. All extra-curricular practices and other after school activities are canceled during this time as well. We will reassess the situation, with guidance from our health departments, on March 26, 2020, to determine the need for an extended closure.
All students should have brought home an instructional packet. This work should cover the first 8 instructional days missed. We realize that closing our schools presents many hardships for our community. Our ability to provide learning during this unprecedented time will require a close partnership between the schools and parents/guardians. Please check your email regularly and be in contact with your child’s teachers.
MCE will continue to work with local and state agencies to develop plans to maintain the critical support our schools provide to students and families. A plan for food distribution will be announced as soon as it is established.
We are committed to sharing these plans with you as they are developed and will communicate as the situation evolves. Updates and information will be communicated by the District All-call system, our social media sites, and our website (www.mcepanthers.com).
Thank you for your patience and continued support of our efforts to be proactive during this unprecedented time.
Dr. Josh Angel
Superintendent

Thanks also goes out Mrs. Cheryl Hinkle for another outstanding job in organizing this year's assembly. As always, a HUGE thanks goes out to all of our veterans. #PantherNation

All area Veterans and Guests are invited today as MCE honors those who have served our country in uniform. There will be musical performances as well as dramatic pieces from our drama department. Mr. Chad Banks, retired Air Force SSgt, will be our guest speaker. The assembly will begin at 10:00 AM in the Wayne Keltner Gymnasium. A lunch for all veterans will follow in the Field House Lobby.

There has been a confirmed case of the Chicken Pox in the elementary school. A letter with more information has been sent home with every student. There are guidelines from the Department of Health and Senior Services that must be followed for certain non-immunized (exempt) students. These individuals have been contacted. You can contact the School Health Office at 417-376-2215 ext 244, your doctor, or the Polk County Health Department with further questions about Varicella Virus (Chicken Pox).

One of the many amazing things about MCE is the giving and servant heart of our teachers and students. Yesterday evening, around 30 students and 10 adults from MCE went to Hands of Hope, which is a service project of Convoy of Hope. Students represented from MCE all came together from these organizations: Student Council, FCCLA, FFA, FBLA, FCA and NHS. Including our numbers, there were a total of 331 volunteers. Here's what our students helped to accomplish:
· 1,723 pairs of Toms Shoes boxed for kids in rural communities all over the US
· 737 baby care kits created for disaster survivors
· 1,000 bags of groceries bagged for the Hope Connection right here in Springfield, MO & 1,200 bags of groceries for a Rural Compassion event in Lake Village, Arkansas
·4,030 lbs of cereal bagged for families in the US
·1,810 lbs of pasta bagged for families all over the world (8,320 meals total!)
· & 5,000 bags labeled for food bagging projects in future weeks (so we can keep bagging those meals!)
What these volunteers did last night, helps Convoy of Hope better serve hundreds of thousands of individuals all over the world through our Children's Feeding, Women's Empowerment, Agriculture, Community Events, Rural Compassion & Disaster Services Initiatives.
Thank you to our teachers for organizing and taking them and for our parents who helped to volunteer with them. #PantherNation

In Morrisville, we pride ourselves on being a patriotic community. At MCE, we pride ourselves with a tradition of graduates who have gone on to serve our country. With this in mind, we have created a Wall of Honor. This wall will honor all MCE alumni who have ever donned the uniform of one of the five branches of service. For this wall to be successful, we need the help of the community. This wall will consist of a 5x7 uniformed picture of each alumni. Each picture will then be framed and have a nameplate featuring the name, year of graduation and branch of service. If you have a loved one who has served or is currently serving, we would love for you to donate a picture (scanned or original, either will work) for us to feature them on this wall. The honor wall is situated at the student lot entryway so our students can help to honor their former classmates who have served.
This project, like many others, comes with a small cost. If you know anyone who would be willing to donate to this cause, please see the High School Office and earmark your donation for the Honor Wall. Any amount would be appreciated. Our goal is $500 to help pay for the frames and name plaques.

Here is the November 2019 Edition of the Panther Nation Newsletter. This is a special Veteran's Edition. It features our faculty and staff members who are veterans, as well as our new Honor Wall. Enjoy! #PantherNation

This week we celebrate Bus Driver Appreciation and National School Bus Safety Week. We are blessed in Morrisville to have incredible drivers who go above and beyond to keep our students safe. I have the privilege to be able to observe and hear on the bus radios, the tremendous amount of communication that goes on between our drivers and building secretaries to make sure our students get home safely every night. Much of this behind the scenes communication is never known to anyone on the outside, but I get to witness it on a regular basis and I appreciate it immensely. It amazes me how often I hear a bus driver radio in just to check on a student who may not be on their bus to make sure they are ok or were picked up by a parent during the day. This demonstrates the tremendous amount of care our drivers have for the well being of our students.
Please take a moment this week and help me thank our drivers for the phenomenal job they do!

Congratulations to the MCE speech team. The following students did very well for their first tournament of the season.
Megan Hamm and Jordan Rippee advanced to semifinals in duet acting.
Xavier Sanders advanced to semifinals in dramatic interpretation.

Megan Hamm advanced to finals in Dramatic interpretation and was the festival champion receiving a first place trophy.

Congratulations to MCE Alumni Luke Lower (2017) for being named to the Spring 2019 Dean's List at Missouri State University.
https://news.missouristate.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Missouri-State-University-deans-list-spring-2019-sorted-by-hometown.pdf

To younger generations today, June 6th is simply another day. But, to many, this is a day we remember. Seventy-Five years ago today, a hand full of young men, many who were no older than teenagers, showed courage rarely seen today. These young men stormed a beach, helping to stop to one of the most prolific evils this world has ever known. If you know or see one of these men today, let them know of your gratitude by thanking them, offering a hug or a simply, a handshake. These men will be identified by the time on their face and the pride in their heart. It is this pride that has carried them through time to pass their experiences to other generations so we may never forget the sacrifices they gave for our freedom. They will never forget the brothers they lost this day, nor shall we! So take a moment today to give thanks, and remember this pivotal day in our country's history. May we never let the memory of the lives lost and those who were fortunate to come home, be forgotten.

Congratulations to these MCE Alumni for making the Spring Semester Dean's List at Drury University:

Every year, electric cooperatives in Missouri sponsor essay contests to select delegates to the annual Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. These fortunate high school students represent their local cooperative on a whirlwind tour of the nation's capital. They tour museums, visit America's most cherished monuments and even meet their elected officials. All the while they are learning about electric cooperatives and their role in the community.
This year, Megan Hamm, a Junior at MCE, wrote an essay on the topic of welding and how it tied in to electric usage. This essay won Megan the opportunity to represent the Southwest Electric Cooperative out of Bolivar this summer for the annual Youth Tour. Thanks to Nick Seiner from SWEC in Bolivar for presenting Megan with her award this afternoon. Congratulations Megan!!

A reminder about the high school Athletic Banquet is tonight at 6:00 in the FEMA shelter.

After careful consideration, school will be canceled tomorrow (Jan 30) due to dangerous windchills. We do not want to chance a student being overexposed to these conditions. Stay warm!

There are several cases of Influenza A and other viruses going around. To help stop the spread of germs practice good hand washing, cover you mouth and nose, avoid touching your eyes/nose/mouth, get plenty of rest, and it is very important to keep your child home if they are sick.

The phone lines are back up and running!

-Phone Outage- A cut fiber line is causing inbound and outbound issues. Some phone numbers are able to get through. It seems that certain local numbers will come through, but not others. We will be monitoring Facebook Messenger for communication and hopefully the issue will be fixed soon.
